My child is playing on their middle school team. Can they play 5CYB also?

Yes.  Most middle school players also play 5CYB. The 2023 boy's middle school season runs from October 23rd - December 16th, and the 5CYB season begins on November 28th, so there will be just 3 weeks that overlap. Most middle school practices/games are in the early afternoon, so they will not conflict with 5CYB games in the evening.

How Many kids are on a team?

1/2 grade - up to 10 players
3/4 grade - up to 8 players
5/6 grade - up to 8 players
7/8 grade - up to 8 players

how are the teams made? Can I request to play with a friend?

In all divisions, except for 7th & 8th grades, teams are generally formed by school. There are no guarantees though because odd numbers of sign- ups are usually the norm at each school, so some players will have to be combined with other schools to form a team.
Teams are formed in this priority:
1. Each team must have a coach.
2. Each team must have a sponsor. The sponsor usually has a child on the team.
3. The team must be competitively balanced with the other teams at the SAME school.  This, of course, is an inexact science and on some occasions mistakes are made.  We try our hardest to balance the teams.
4. Assistant Coach requests will only be granted if the teams are balanced.

5. Last on the priority list are teammate requests.

When are the games?

1/2 grade plays one or two games per week & all their games will be on Saturdays between 9:00am - 6:00 pm. Game times will vary each week.

3/4, 5/6, 7/8 grade play one or two games per week. Games may be scheduled any day of the week except Sunday.  We try our hardest to schedule all games on weeknights, but there may be a couple of Saturday games. The first game on week nights starts at 5:15 and the last game begins at 8:15. We do our best not to schedule a late game for the younger players. Game days/times vary week to week.

Games are not able to be rescheduled to accomodate school functions or conflicts with other sports.

Where are the games?

Games are played at multiple gyms in the 5 Cities.  1st/2nd graders will play all of their games at Pacific View Academy and Mesa Middle School.  3/4, 5/6, 7/8 will play at LifePoint Church, Oceano Community Center, Judkins Middle School, Paulding Middle School and St. Patrick's School.   Click Here for maps to all the gyms.

when/where are practices?

Practice times are set by your coach.  Teams typically practice at your school on the playground.

The practice schedule set by our coach doesn't work for us, can we switch teams?
